Permanent Makeup Removal

The popularity of permanent makeup procedures is steadily growing, but so is the demand for the removal of old or unsuccessful permanent makeup.

Why and when do we remove it?

  • The procedure was performed incorrectly, or the pigment didn't settle properly.

  • The skin on the face has lost its firmness, and the shape of the permanent makeup has changed.

  • Fashion trends have changed.

  • Over time, the pigment no longer looks good.

  • The pigment is too intense.

When deciding to remove old permanent makeup, you should be aware that the procedure also carries certain risks if performed incorrectly by the practitioner.

What are the complications of poorly performed removal procedures?

  • Scarring

  • Lack of results

  • Tissue growths – lipohypertrophy, lipohyperdystrophy

  • Skin discoloration and depigmentation

Laser Removal

How is pigment removed from the skin?

To get rid of old or unsuccessful permanent makeup, laser removal is commonly used, or alternatively, removal with a special solution (remover). Both methods are effective, and the choice of method can help speed up the process of breaking down the pigment.

Tattoo or Permanent Makeup?

The depth at which the pigment is placed in the skin and the size of its particles determine whether it's classified as a tattoo or permanent makeup. Tattoo pigment is located in the dermis, which is deeper, while permanent makeup is in the epidermis, which is why it fades over time and eventually disappears.

Eyebrow Pigment Colors

Pigment used for eyebrows is a mix of three colors: red, yellow, and black. The proportion of these colors affects how quickly the permanent makeup can be removed. It's not possible to determine exactly what mixture and color ratios were used in the skin.

Colors That Are Difficult to Remove with Laser

Yellow and white pigments, or pigments that contain a high amount of these colors, are difficult to remove with a laser. In such cases, a remover is used. If the pigment contains a large amount of these colors, laser treatment may darken the permanent makeup or turn it green.

How Does the Laser Work?

A laser emits a high dose of energy, breaking down pigment particles into smaller fragments, which are then cleared from the body by the lymphatic system. After each session, permanent makeup or tattoos gradually lighten. Factors affecting the number of sessions include the depth of the pigment in the skin and its type.

How Long Does Pigment Removal Take to Completely Clear the Skin?

Treatments are done at intervals of 4-8 weeks. It is recommended to perform 3 to 6 sessions, with the cost of a single laser removal session being £80. It's impossible to predict the exact number of sessions, how long the process will take, or whether the pigment will be fully removed.

Skin Reaction During Laser Removal

Immediately after the procedure, the skin may be red, and swelling may occur. The permanent makeup may temporarily disappear, but the final results will take 2-4 weeks to appear, once the skin has fully healed.

Contraindications for Laser Treatment

  • Fresh permanent makeup (at least 6 months old)

  • Photosensitizing medications

  • Other contraindications listed on the main page related to permanent makeup procedures.

Permanent Makeup Removal with Remover

How Does a Remover Work?

A remover works by extracting the pigment from the skin. The procedure is similar to micropigmentation (a technique used for permanent makeup), where the pigment is physically removed from the skin.

Remover treatments can remove all colors, including white and gold pigments, which are typically difficult or impossible to remove with a laser. The interval between sessions is 6 to 8 weeks. A series of 3 to 6 treatments is recommended, with the cost of a single remover session being £100.

Contraindications for Remover Treatment:

  • Specific contraindications related to health conditions or medications would need to be confirmed (but generally similar to those for permanent makeup procedures).

  • Further details about contraindications should be available on the main page or provided during consultation.
